Plagiarism Policy

PJEMS has a zero-tolerance approach to intentional plagiarism and other forms of academic dishonesty.

Submitted manuscripts may undergo similarity screening before or during the editorial process.

Forms of Plagiarism

Plagiarism may include:

  • Direct copying;
  • Unacknowledged paraphrasing;
  • Unattributed translation;
  • Appropriation of ideas;
  • Duplicate publication;
  • Redundant publication;
  • Improper reuse of previously published material;
  • Self-plagiarism where it constitutes inappropriate duplicate publication.

Similarity Reports

A similarity score alone does not establish plagiarism.

Editors may examine the source and context of similarities before determining whether further action is necessary.

Consequences

Depending on the circumstances, the journal may:

  • Request an explanation;
  • Request correction;
  • Reject the manuscript;
  • Refer the matter to the author's institution;
  • Publish an editorial notice;
  • Issue an Expression of Concern;
  • Retract a published article.
